Daily writing prompt
Emperor Palpatine has announced open elections for a new Emperor — and he’s nominated Darth Vader. You get to nominate one challenger.

With my first cup of coffee in hand. I read this morning’s prompt and felt out of my element. I’m a Star Trek fan from the old days, the 1960s. I honestly tried to watch Star Wars in theaters 3 times. Each time, it was like a knockout pill; it put me to sleep. I caught bits and pieces here and there, and I know some of the characters. But this one I had to look up.

“I nominate Grand Admiral Thrawn to challenge Darth Vader.”

“While Vader rules through raw intimidation and military force, Thrawn brings peerless tactical intellect, long-term strategic vision, and an analytical understanding of the galaxy’s diverse species. Thrawn’s campaign would pivot from fear-based dominance to calculating order and operational brilliance.”

This was AI’s response when I posed the question.

Which now leads me to the question, if AI were to decide to take over the world. What would it be like? It is already making its first draft choices for Emperor! I had to look up Thrawn. No idea who that was.

The older I get, the more changes I’ve seen and experienced. From rotary phones and beepers to iPhones. From vinyl records to cassette cartridges to CDs and beyond. I could go on and on. And now AI is making itself extremely useful and luring us into dependence and complacency.

I remember taking my sister and great-grandmother to the planetarium in Miami one day. Great-grandma freaked out when we sat in the rotunda with all the stars above on the dome. She thought we were headed to outer space for real. I had to calm her down. Now, I understand where she was coming from. She witnessed numerous changes and advances in her lifetime, so to her, it was possible.

I pose a new prompt question: What would it be like if humanity relinquished control and the world were ruled by AI?
