One morning, I sat with my cup of coffee, watching Faraway Village videos on YouTube, when a spark hit this old brain of mine. “Why just look at these videos when I could be creating something?” I had been seeing some of the fantastic stuff AI was creating, and the thought occurred to me to learn how to write prompts for AI. My first discovery was that ChatGPT could generate images for me. I had absolutely no idea until I tried it. I’m 70; I am not a techie, and I’m not up to date on the latest electronic gadgets. And frankly, I was at a crossroads: AI or not AI. What I am is creative and curious. I had been using the image generator with only three choices on WordPress (or so I thought) to generate images for my blog story. From there, I started using prompts to refine and change the images, and bingo! I was so excited to get results that matched my vision more closely. My next step came when I discovered ChatGPT’s wonderful AI imagery capabilities. I typed in a simple request, and it produced a beautiful picture. I had paid Zeely to create an ad for my new book, The Dance of the Two Sisters, but I wanted only the image, not the words, so I asked ChatGPT to remove the text and leave me just the image. It was a eureka moment. I’ll share that first image with you.
Now I have the image ready for me to add my own touches. I’d taken my first steps, and the old graphics designer magic kicked in. I was a graphics designer for the Sun Sentinel before I retired to become a Pediatric Nurse at 60. I love to reinvent myself. At 70, I expected retirement to make my world smaller. Instead, I’m learning AI filmmaking, publishing books, and beginning an entirely new chapter. What would you still love to learn?
