Home will always be 175th Street in Washington Heights, New York. Aunt Mary is in the kitchen making her delicious blintzes for Saturday brunch. Susanna and Eddie are coming over to play, and all is well.

Home is where Mom cools the baby’s bottle in the kitchen sink before introducing my baby sister to her crib.

Home is Grandma Catalina making us peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with Kool-Aid. It is a vast backyard filled with hundreds of birch trees, a swing set, and secret woods nearby.

Home is walking into my first townhouse with the keys in my hand and every struggle behind me.

Home is where my little black cat lives and where my friend has remained by my side through thick and thin.
