Broke Boho is the title of the Facebook community that inspired me to change my home decor completely. I went on a thrift store adventure every week for a month. I was determined to find the right pieces to enhance my decor. I used my paintings to add color. I also used my roommate’s African mask collection to complement my Boho theme. It includes Afro, Cuban, Buddhist, and artsy elements.

I go on outings every week to comb the local thrift stores for the perfect item for my home. My favorite is Oddball’s Nifty Thrift on Dixie Hwy in Oakland Park, Florida. I am adding more African masks and other odd pieces to my collection.

I remember negotiating the price of one of the ugliest and spookiest African initiation masks I’d ever seen—$50! It was worth it because it complimented another mask I had at home. I did a little research on the masks. Now, I had the male and female initiation masks. I also found other handmade items like this little side table and flower pot.

I added some artwork to the African-themed side of my Boho home. It includes some of my Afro-Cuban paintings (Chango and Obatala). There is a picture of my roommate in her younger years with some members of the Maasai tribe.

On the opposite side of the living room is part of my Buddhist side. I keep a picture of Geshla, my spiritual Guru, and Buddha there. Statues are also kept in the entryway.

My room is the Artsy room/studio where I dabble in painting, music, writing, and drawing.

I have since rearranged my room and living room several times, including last night at 4 am!

My roommate also joined the Boho theme; her room is all blue, including a Medicine Buddha.

It was a blast redecorating, and coming home makes me smile. It is cozy, colorful, warm, and welcoming. I always welcome your thoughts and appreciate your likes.
