Short Stories, Poetry, and more

It is that time when I resolve to keep my resolves in the New Year. Always with the best intentions, I make my New Year’s Resolution list. I buy all sorts of exercise equipment, journals, new fad diet books, and even new exercise clothing! Fast forward to February. Exercise equipment is gathering dust. It is also making a “Handy Dandy” clothes rack. My journal has five entries. The fad diet book is added to the back of my closet collection of discarded books. However, I still get to wear my exercise clothes and pretend I’m doing good.

Who is kidding? It is the same every New Year. It is like a national reset day when everyone saves up what they should have been doing all year. Instead, I’ll do it next month. Definitely!

I greatly admire those who can stick to a plan. I am not one of those people. I change my mind all the time. I can be impulsive, make all-too-quick decisions, and change my mind again. No wonder I can’t keep a New Year’s resolution to save my life!

This year, I resolved to make adjustments and be kinder to myself. Understanding my imperfections, quirkiness, and sometimes physical limitations.

No more cookie diets, Atkins meal replacement shakes (sic), bodybuilding equipment, and NO MORE DIET COOKBOOKS!

If I am going to do something, I will. As the saying goes, you will if you really want to. It just makes more sense to me to stop stressing about it.
