Ocean of Nectar by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is one of the deepest, most complex, and most beautifully profound and freeing books one could ever read, discussing the emptiness of all phenomena and ultimate truth. It is a commentary on Chandrakirti’s classic text Entering the Middle Way and a practical guide to the Buddhist view of reality. The key themes are Emptiness: people and things do not exist independently or as they appear to our senses. Ultimate Truth: looking past everyday illusions to understand the true nature of existence. And finally, Liberation from Suffering: by realizing emptiness, which cuts the root of mental delusions and brings lasting inner peace. Needless to say, I always make it halfway and don’t continue, but I am compelled again and again to pick it up and try again.
