Excuse me

Daily writing prompt
What are the biggest mistakes people make when visiting your country?

For a short while, I lived in Lauderdale by the Sea, a small beach town at the end of East Commercial Blvd. During tourist season, you’ve got to interact with a lot of foreign visitors. The grocery store is where you notice just how rude some foreigners can be. They will bang into you with the carts and not even say “I’m sorry.” It is as if you weren’t even there, standing right there. They just keep chatting with their friend in a foreign language. They cross the streets, oblivious to the traffic, making for a frustrating drive through the town.

I think the biggest mistake any foreigner makes in any country is failing to do their homework and learn the local customs. We get frustrated with foreigners in our neck of the woods, and we frustrate them when we visit other countries. Manners matter wherever you are; being a tourist is not an excuse to be rude.
