Prepared

Daily writing prompt
What’s the best way to build self-confidence?

In acting for the theater, we were told to imagine everyone in their underwear. It really does work. All kidding aside, remind yourself that we all put our pants on one leg at a time. The best you can do, as I do, is prepare yourself before plunging into a situation. I arm myself with as much knowledge as possible to avoid surprises.

I remember, a long time ago, I had to face the daunting task of filing for bankruptcy. I had no money to hire a fancy lawyer. I picked one from a community flyer that circulated at the time. I got what I paid for. A shoddy old man with a disheveled suit and a lazy secretary. I did my homework and armed myself with information about the law. When I got the first draft from the lawyer’s office, I realized I was in deep Kimchi; they had done a horrible job presenting my case. I took the reins and prepared my own case; the lawyer was there just to be present. My case went without a hitch. The man who went next did not fare so well. He wanted to choke the lawyer, but he was the one who was not prepared.
