I must confess, I love working with AI. It is getting better at following my instructions and generating images to accompany my poems and stories. The more I interact with it, the more it teaches me about myself. The future of graphic design is here. It removes much of the tedious work and makes room for creative thought. 

I worked 8 years as a graphic designer at the Sun Sentinel, the local newspaper in Fort Lauderdale. Our graphics department dwindled to almost nothing after they sent our work overseas. The artists were replaced by outsourcing our work. I remained one of the few, but I foresaw the future, decided to become a nurse, and left the graphics department for a guaranteed income.

Now retired, I can look back and hope the younger generation embraces this new technology and uses it effectively. It is now “I and the Machine”; how we stay relevant is up to us.
